The Actors Garden Youth Shakespeare Company returns
with a historic reading and a tragic play!

We are so excited for the second summer of The Actors Garden Youth Shakespeare Company! The AGYSC is an ensemble of teen actors who engage with Shakespeare in order to grow their love of performance and bring classic texts to the community. Led by the directing team of The Actors Garden's own Alex Frisch and Andrew Hitzhusen, this summer our season is an excited mix of a staged reading and a full production!

The 2025 AGYSC Summer Season:

Julius Caesar
a Staged Reading
Rehearsals June 27th - June 29th
Performance June 29th at 3pm

The Tragedy of Romeo & Juliet
a fully produced performance at The Actors Garden Studio
Rehearsals begin June 30th
Performances August 15th, 16th, & 17th

Auditions:
We are growing the company and would love more young actors to join the ensemble. Here is what you should know before auditioning:

Performances and Rehearsals:
Our summer season consists of two projects but we are auditioning at the same time. You are welcome to audition for one project or both! For our staged reading, we ask that all actors commit to the full rehearsal schedule because our time together is limited. For Romeo and Juliet, we are happy to work with your summer conflicts (we know summer is a busy time) as long as you share those conflicts with us on audition day and are able to commit to tech week and shows.

  Julius Caesar
Table Read: Friday June 27th, 6:00-8:00 pm
Staging Rehearsal: Saturday June 28th, 10:00am-2:00pm
Final Rehearsal: Sunday June 29th, 1:30-2:30pm
Public Performance: Sunday June 29th, 3:00pm

The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet
First Read: Monday June 30th, 6:30pm
Rehearsals: Schedule TBD, primarily evenings, some weekend mornings 7/1 - 8/7
Tech Week: Monday August 11th - Thursday August 14th (evenings)
  Performances: August 15th, 16th, & 17th

Who can audition? High School students (rising sophomores through graduated seniors) and College Freshman.

When to audition? Auditions are June 21st 11am-1pm and June 22nd 5:30-8:30pm. We will host callbacks on the evening of June 23rd.  Audition for us in person at The Actors Garden Studio, 909 S. Lombard.

If you cannot make our audition day but still want to audition for the company, you are welcome to send in an electronic submission or work with us to set up an alternative audition time. Reach out to Andrew and Alex at [email protected] for information and scheduling questions.

What to prepare? Please bring in a Shakespearean monologue memorized for the audition. We recommend pulling a piece from a tragedy or history but we welcome monologues of any style. You may also be asked to cold-read some small sides from our summer plays.

More Details:
The AGYSC is dedicated to continuing to build a team of young collaborators. As you are investing your talents in the company, we want to invest in you. This is not a summer job, but actors will be compensated. Profits from the ticket sales of our production will be divided between The Actors Garden and the actors.

Any questions about the YSC? Reach out to Alex and Andrew at [email protected]
