The Actors Garden Youth Shakespeare Company continues with a tyrannical reading and a magical play!
We are so excited to hop into our third summer of The Actors Garden Youth Shakespeare Company! The AGYSC is an ensemble of teen actors who engage with Shakespeare in order to grow their love of performance and bring classic texts to the community. Led by the directing team of The Actors Garden's own Alex Frisch and Andrew Hitzhusen, this summer our season is an exciting mix of a staged reading and a garden production!
The 2026 AGYSC Summer Season:
Best of the Bard
a Night of Shakespeare’s most Classic Texts
Sunday, June 7th at 7:30pm
The Actors Garden Studio, 909 S. Lombard Ave.
Richard III
a Staged Reading
Rehearsals June 19th - June 21st
Performance June 21st 4pm
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
a short-process Garden Production
Rehearsals begin July 22nd
Performances August 7th, 8th, & 9th
Auditions:
We are growing the company and would love more young actors to join the ensemble. Here is what you should know before auditioning:
Performances and Rehearsals:
Our summer season consists of two projects but we are auditioning at the same time. You are welcome to audition for one project or both! For our staged reading, we ask that all actors commit to the full rehearsal schedule because our time together is limited. For A Midsummer Night’s Dream, we are happy to work with your summer conflicts (we know summer is a busy time) as long as you share those conflicts with us on audition day and are able to commit to all of tech week and shows.
Who can audition?
High School students (rising sophomores through graduated seniors) and College Freshman.
When to audition?
Auditions are Sunday, May 24th from 3:00-5:30pm and June 3rd from 6:00-8:30pm. Callbacks will be June 13th from 4:30-6:30pm. Audition for us in person at The Actors Garden Studio, 909 S. Lombard.

What to prepare?
Please bring in a Shakespearean monologue of any style to the audition. You may also be asked to cold-read some small sides from our summer plays.

The AGYSC is dedicated to continuing to build a team of young collaborators. As you are investing your talents in the company, we want to invest in you. This is not a summer job, but actors will be compensated. Profits from the ticket sales of our shows will be divided between The Actors Garden and the actors.
